Pride Month 2021

1 min read

The start of June marks the beginning of Pride month 2021!

The team at Shay & Blue are restlessly focused on inclusion and celebrating YOU.

Our scents are for all genders. There are no outsiders at S&B, all are welcome, always. We support everyone's right to express themselves fully.

But why is a rainbow used as the pride symbol and what is the history behind it? Here's the lowdown.

The rainbow flag, created by artist Gilbert Baker in 1978, is widely known as the symbol of Pride. Rumour has it that Gilbert got his inspiration for the flag from the famous Judy Garland song Over the Rainbow. The original gay pride flag was seen in the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade on June 25th, 1978.

When the flag was first created, each colour in the rainbow design had a different meaning.

Pink - Sex

Red - Life

Orange - Healing

Yellow - The Sun

Green - Nature

Turquoise - Art and Magic

Blue - Serenity

Purple - The Spirit
