Street Style: Step into Spring

Sun 20th March 2016

Step into spring

Nothing says ‘new season’ than a brand new shoe wardrobe. And this season sees a fantastic array – from utterly glammed up and fabulous heels, to sleek, minimalist flats – and everything in between.

We’ve got the perfect pick of tempting footwear trends for the months to come – now all you need is a new outfit – or six – to match.

Sneaker Pimps

A trend you’ll certainly love – especially when you’ve got to practice an impromptu sprint to catch the late bus into work – sneakers were found in a variety of incarnations across the runway. Demurely sophisticated hidden wedge heels from Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein’s shimmering leather slip ons, and our favourite – Alexander Wang’s revision of the skater shoe. Think fat tongues and keep it neutral – blacks, greys and classic white will promise plenty of wear.

All along the Western front

You might be raising an eyebrow questioningly, but stick with us here. The cowboy boot is back – this time bedazzled and decked up like a saloon dancing girl, sparkling with ostentatious gems and jewels. But if all that glitter isn’t quite your thing, then look for more contemporary versions of the trend – taking the pointy toed booty and re-imagining it in bold, chic white, or effortless suedes.

Glammed up gladiators

Remember gladiator sandals? If those two words bring up the horror of those tan lines, then prepare for a reboot this spring. This season’s gladiator sandals go more sculptural than ever – less Roman foot soldier and more razor-sharp fashionista. Look for elaborate baroque swirls instead of laces a la Alberta Ferretti, or keep it barely-there with tiny little laces criss-crossed over perfectly pedicured feet.

Slip in

Slippers and sandals made a prominent splash – and are the ideal example of a footwear trend that is really, really wearable. Mules are given a serious glamour makeover with a variety of finishes and textures – from ultra-sleek patent to richly decorated fabrics and gemstones. Don’t underestimate the slipper action, either – pretty soon, you’ll be slipping into these effortlessly easy flats for work, brunch, and everything in between. Luxury hotel room style – with delicate snippets of lace, crystal encrusted versions that look surprisingly good for a night out, and even Victoria Beckham’s own crushed down flats are enticing this season.
